The Conde Museum

The Condé Museum, the second largest collection of old paintings after the Louvre, presents a magnificent collection of 800 works. Poussin, Ingres, Raphaël, … dozens of painters who have made the history of art.
The Condé Museum has preserved a typical display from the 19th century. Indeed the Duke D'Aumale, the last princely owner, left a precise will asking that the works of Chantilly remain in place and never be sold or loaned. He thus hoped to keep his collection intact, and thanks to this vigilance, Chantilly is one of the most beautiful museums in France.

  • The large apartments allow visitors to admire the 18th century decorations of the princes.
  • Furniture purchased by the Duc d'Aumale, contemporary with the decorations, adorns the route.
  • Part of the large apartments, the Cabinet des Livres holds 19,000 volumes, 1,500 manuscripts and 17,500 printed matter. The Duc d'Aumale, a true enthusiast, inherited about 900 manuscripts from the princes of Bourbon-Condé and acquired 600, including the famous Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. He thus composes a fabulous collection.
  • The library and archives of the Château de Chantilly in a few figures: 44,000 old books including 700 incunabula; 1500 manuscripts including 500 illuminations.
  • The Duc d'Aumale's small apartments testify to the way of life of the 19th century since they remained unchanged on the death of their owner. A real journey into the intimacy of the duke.

Discovery of the gardens, tasting of Chantilly cream in the hamlet, playground, labyrinth, kangaroo enclosure... the 115-hectare park includes various types of gardens: "French" garden with the large Le Nôtre parterre, English garden, Anglo garden -Chinese, wood…
