The Commelles ponds are one of the most remarkable sites in the Chantilly forest!

They are an integral part of a natural area of ecological, faunal and floristic interest and they are protected as a classified site under the Domaine de Chantilly and belong to the Oise-Pays de France Regional Natural Park. From the beginning of the Romantic period, this site, very frequented by artists, inspired Chateaubriand in particular, who tells us:

“I would have found the mysteries of life in the stream of the Thève: … it dies in the ponds of Comelles which its youth feeds, constantly expiring, constantly renewed…”

Good to know: Every year in March, thousands of frogs and toads come to the ponds to mate. The roads are closed in the evening to prevent them from being run over by the hundreds.

Stroll on foot, by bike or on horseback around the 4 successive ponds, admire the Château de la Reine Blanche and take a gourmet break at the Crêperie l'Etangs d'Art!
